1.MECHANISM OF ACTION
This peptide functions as a specific antigenic target for the host immune system. As part of the HBV core protein (HBcAg), this sequence is naturally processed and presented by antigen-presenting cells during HBV infection. The peptide can be presented by major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class II molecules to CD4+ helper T cells, stimulating B-cell help and antibody production. More importantly, it contains epitopes that can also be presented by MHC class I molecules to CD8+ cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs).
2.PRODUCT INDICATIONS
HBV Immunology Research: Mapping B-cell and T-cell epitopes within the HBV core antigen to understand correlates of protective immunity and viral clearance.
T-Cell Response Monitoring: Serving as a stimulus in enzyme-linked immunospot (ELISPOT) assays, intracellular cytokine staining (ICS), or proliferation assays to detect and quantify HBV-specific CD4+ and CD8+ T-cell responses in patient samples.
Antibody Detection & Development: Coating plates in enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs) to detect anti-HBc antibodies in serum (anti-HBc detection) or to generate and screen monoclonal antibodies specific to this immunodominant region.
Vaccine Research: Evaluating the immunogenicity of this specific epitope in preclinical vaccine studies, either as a component of peptide-based vaccines or to assess immune responses elicited by traditional HBV vaccines.
3.CLINICAL EFFICACY OF PRODUCT
Diagnostic Significance: Immune responses against this epitope are central to clinical diagnostics. The presence of antibodies to HBcAg (anti-HBc) is a key serological marker for diagnosing past or ongoing HBV infection. This peptide can be used in research to develop sensitive and specific anti-HBc assays.
Immunological Correlate: Strong and multispecific T-cell responses, including those targeting this core region, are associated with viral control and clearance in acute HBV infection and in patients who successfully respond to therapy. This peptide is used to monitor these responses in research settings.
Vaccine Context: While current prophylactic HBV vaccines are based on the surface antigen (HBsAg), therapeutic vaccine strategies aim to induce robust T-cell responses against core and polymerase antigens. This peptide is used in research to evaluate such therapeutic vaccine candidates.
