This binding activates the receptor's intracellular catalytic domain, converting guanosine triphosphate (GTP) into the second messenger cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). Elevated intracellular cGMP then activates protein kinase G (PKG) and type II cGMP-dependent protein kinase (cGKII).
