It acts as a competitive inhibitor of histidine decarboxylase (HDC), reducing histamine production and modulating allergic responses. Its neuro- and cardioprotective actions are mediated via activation of the Nrf2 antioxidant pathway, enhancement of mitochondrial function (improving ATP synthesis and reducing ROS), and inhibition of NF-κB-driven inflammation. Additionally, it modulates PI3K/Akt and MAPK signaling to promote cell survival and has been shown to induce apoptosis and autophagy in certain cancer cells through caspase-3 and LC3-II regulation.
